You might be tempted to splurge on a new pair of boots or jacket for Fall (and you should!), but don’t forget to leave room in your budget to ensure your skin is well-cared for during this changing season. If you don’t want to be inundated with dry patches, blemishes or irritated winter skin in a few short weeks, now is the time to plan ahead. Here are our three quick tips to ensure you have glowing, radiant skin heading into the colder months:
- Keep Moisturizing, and don’t forget the SPF! Of course you know to invest in a good moisturizer with an SPF of at least 15 for summer, but when the sun hides behind dreary clouds and blankets the entire city in a grey fog, it’s easy to forget that sun damage is still a threat to your skin. Once the temperature drops, many of us are glad to be done with dealing with the oily skin that comes with summer, and forget to continue to protect your skin from the sun’s harsh rays. Just because it’s cloudy doesn’t mean your skin won’t feel the impact of the sun. You will want to invest in a richer, hydrating night cream to help your skin absorb the benefits and wake up with soft skin. We recommend Aveda’s Botanical Kinetics Intense Hydrating Rich Creme, which is dermatologist-tested and non-acnegenic.
- Stock up on Lip Balm: Now is the time to hide one of your favs in each one of your jacket pockets and purses. Go ahead and toss one in the center console in your car too, so you don’t have to fumble around while driving (safety first!). Everyone has experienced that panic moment when you realize you have no lip balm anywhere, and you’ve been absent-mindedly chewing at your dry, cracked lips until they became sore. At that point, you’ll use a stick of butter just to get some relief (admit it). Aveda’s Lip Saver is our ultimate fav, but in a moment of weakness, even the off-brand stuff will do.
- Get Travel-Sized Mini Hand Cream: It’s easy to remember to moisturize right when you get out of the shower– you’ve been doing it since the dawn of time! But we’re all applying hand sanitizer like mad right now, and as the air dries out, you know your hands are going to be chapped, cracked and worse. You use your hands all day long, and tight, dry skin can be not only annoying, but can open you up to exposure for bacteria and viruses, should your hands crack. Protect yourself now by making sure you are prepared. Aveda’s travel-sized Hand Relief infuses hands with Andiroba oil and other plant hydrators to leave hands softer and noticeably smoother.
