Joe Gastaldo, MD, System Medical Director for Infectious Disease, explains who is eligible for Paxlovid, the highly effective treatment to treat COVID-19 in people at high-risk.
We’re now going into the winter season, and we will likely see more COVID. People who have an at-risk condition need to have a plan in place. If you have an at-risk condition (regardless of your vaccination status), and you have COVID, how would you get Paxlovid?
Paxlovid has a broad indication for those who would receive it: being physically inactive, anybody with a mental health condition (such as ADHD, depression or bipolar disorder), and anybody who has physical inactivity. These in addition to all of the other things we are familiar with, like diabetes, heart disease, lung disease and kidney disease. Paxlovid is the best tool available to lower your chances of dying or being hospitalized.
