In this Fast Fact, Joe Gastaldo, MD, System Medical Director for Infectious Disease, shares the latest news in COVID vaccine updates.
Dr. Gastaldo tells us the Biden administration has announced that in September 2022, we will likely have the availability of the new bivalent updated COVID-19 vaccine. This updated vaccine will include the ancestral strain in the BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants.
Gastaldo recommends that if you’re eligible to get a booster now, get it and do not wait for the possible September vaccine. We aren’t certain when that vaccine will become available. Plus, it will likely be prioritized for elderly people and those at risk.
